A Detailed Idea about Rising Damp at your Home or Office


For residential properties the three most common types of damp are condensation, penetrating damp and rising damp.

Before you try to get it fixed it's necessary to know what type of damp is affecting your home as in different ways each needs to be treated, and dramatically cost of damp repair may vary. The more it's likely to cost to repair and remove any house damp the worse the situation gets.

Rising damp 

By ground water moving up through a floor or wall rising damp is caused. By a barrier called a damp-proof membrane or damp-proof course it’s usually stopped from causing damage and most floors and walls allow some water in. 

At the height of at least 15cm above ground level into the wall and usually made from bitumen or plastic felt a damp-proof course is a horizontal strip. Laid under the concrete floor and impervious to water a damp-proof membrane is a sheet of material.



The house is effectively protected and sealed from ground water and so to the damp-proof course this should be connected. Rising damp gives rise to moulds and then you need a service for mould removal in Sydney.

Rising damp Symptoms

Often with wet patches you may notice damaged plaster or skirting boards, as well as peeling wallpaper and paint, if you have rising damp.

From the building materials and ground rising damp may dissolve soluble salts, which forming a white, powder-like substance then can crystallise. This, along the wall, can leave tide marks along with the water.  You may notice floor coverings lifting, or damp patches if the problem is coming up from the floor.
